On September 10, 2021, we held a celebration for volunteers at the Valakampiai Social Services Home recreation area. We invited the volunteers to come not to volunteer that day, but to get to know one another better, share stories about themselves and their volunteering experiences, enjoy cakes and tea, and admire the beauty of nature as autumn approached.
During this warm and friendly gathering, volunteers from the USA shared that their families had encouraged and supported them in volunteering. Volunteers from Artoteka were pleased that they found it easy to connect with the residents of the Valakampiai Social Services Home during the activities and were especially happy to have gained the residents’ trust. The volunteers also shared their thoughts on the most important values in life, what helps them connect with other people—which is particularly important in volunteering—where they find joy and energy in life, and their plans for the future.
We presented the volunteers with wax candles handmade by our residents and wished them every success.
After the gathering, we parted in high spirits. Due to COVID-19, not all volunteers were able to attend the celebration, so we look forward to welcoming them at future volunteer events.
