Group Living Home Under Construction at Tunelio St. 8

On December 6, 2023, a joyful symbolic time capsule burial ceremony took place, marking the beginning of construction work on the Group Living Home.

Valakampiai Social Services Home, having signed a Joint Activity (Partnership) Agreement with the Vilnius City Municipality Administration on September 25, 2020, is participating in the implementation of the project “Development and Expansion of the Social Services Infrastructure Network in Vilnius City for Persons with Intellectual and/or Mental Disabilities” and plans to establish a Group Living Home.

Following the construction of a two-storey building at 8 Tunelio St., the furnishing of residential and other premises, and the acquisition of furniture and equipment, the Group Living Home will accommodate 10 persons with intellectual disabilities. The environment is adapted for persons with mobility impairments.

Seven future residents will come from the Nijolė Genytė Social Care Home, while three places will be allocated to residents of Vilnius City Municipality who are waiting for placement in long-term social care institutions.

Residents of the Group Living Home will be provided with opportunities to manage their daily lives as independently as possible: shopping, preparing meals, taking care of their home, and participating in recreational and leisure activities. The Group Living Home aims to provide services to persons with disabilities based on each individual’s needs, while helping to create a welcoming and safe home environment.

To ensure a smooth transition and successful move to the new home, two employees of the Valakampiai Social Services Home visited the Nijolė Genytė Social Care Home in the autumn, where they met the future residents of the Group Living Home. During the meeting, the employees introduced themselves, talked about life in the new home, and learned about the future service recipients’ views on preparing to move to a new place, as well as the opportunities to maintain relationships with family members, relatives, and friends.

Residents of the Group Living Home will be supported by a team of 8 staff members.

The establishment of the Group Living Home will contribute to the development of community-based services and the improvement of the social environment for people with disabilities in Vilnius.

The value of the construction works is EUR 1,690,800.00. Funding will be provided from the European Union and Vilnius City Municipality budgets. The project will be administered by UAB “Vilniaus vystymo kompanija”, while the construction works will be carried out by UAB “Veikus”. The Vilnius City Municipality will provide funding for the maintenance of the Group Living Home.
